late 60's Location: ANR/EBAW Photo: collection Skystef Description: this factory fresh Cessna (build by Reims) was on March 23 1966 registered to the Vlaamse Luchtvaartbond based at Antwerp airport. This club was established on March 3 1966 as flying school, for air baptisements, bannertowing and aerial photography. On September 24 1966 their operations did start when this airframe was unveiled to the public (together with two other Cessna's OO-JVO & OO-VLA and a Mooney 20 "OO-VLB") in a ceremony held at Antwerp airport. Here seen in a livery carrying a tiny tail logo and on the fuselage small "Vlaamse Luchtvaartbond" titles (see also upper left inset), baptised "Stormvogel". On June 6 1975 it went to a private user (V. Melotte) basing the airframe at Kiewit airfield. But shortly afterwards on October 10 1975 it was damaged beyond repair at Ursel Air Base when during landing the pilot in command had to turn sharply to the right whereby the right wing hit ground and crashed. Luckely no severe injuries to both pilots on board and it was on September 7 1981 cancelled from the register. |
