1946 Location: - Photo: Sabena via collection Radoje Jelic Description: this airframe wears the first color scheme of Sabena and was delivered at Brussels on June 7 1946. It was never officially written in the Belgian register (at that era this was not so uncommon as it took some time to get the through the paperwork) as a couple of months after its delivery it crashed on September 18 1946 into wooded terrain while on approach to Gander airport as technical stop when enroute Brussels-New York, killing 27 of the 44 occupants on board. The remains are currently still on site as a graveyard monument at St. Martin-in-the-Woods (Canada). More info can be found here. |
