05/1989 Location: -/EBGB Photo: collection Skystef Description: this vintage 1950 build Piper (ex USAAF) came on January 13 1989 in the register for the Belgian Veteran Aircraft Federation, established on May 16 1979 as a non-profit organization based at Grimbergen airfield. The airfarme arrived there on March 10 1989. Here seen at its home base in the livery of its previous operator, the Royal Netherlands Air Force with serial "R-213" on the fuselage & tail and USAAF serial "51-15682" on the tail. It was severely damaged during a takeoff at Saint-Ghislain airfield on September 11 1999 luckely without casualties of the two occupants on board. Afterwards it was dismantled and laid up for a while before being repaired at Antwerp airport which was finalised on February 25 2003. It remained in storage at Antwerp airport for years but on November 18 2005 it was sold to a Dutch private owner (W.J.C.M. Thüring) and departed Antwerp airport for Gilze-Rijen Air Base on February 25 2006. On October 11 2006 it came back for storage at Antwerp airport leaving again for Seppe airport on April 7 2007. On December 18 2008 it was cancelled from the register migrating two years later on November 5 2010 to the Netherlands as "PH-RED" for Flight Systems Holland BV. All the time it retained exactly the same outfit as seen on this picture. |
