20/11/1989 Location: -/EBGB Photo: Frans Dechaene Description: this second hand vintage 1961 build Chipmunk (ex Portuguese Air Force) was registered to July 26 1989 to the NATO Aeroclub, here seen such at its home base in a grey livery of the former operator with a sticker of the Belgian club on its nose (see also lower left inset) and serial "1372" in the tail of the previous operator. During the first year it received no CofA as wing corrosion was discovered which had to be repaired by replacing the wings and this job was finished in the summer of 1990. After been for sale since July 1994 it left again the register on August 7 1996 going afterwards to the Suisse one as "HB-TUM" for Association Chipmunk and retaining the same outfit. With this company it had 13 years later (on October 3 2009) a fatal accident during an airshow at Covilhã (Portugal), luckely without casualties of the two occupants on board. See here for the crash report. |
