Weather picture of the month September 2008
|
Picture taken at Kampenhout on July 29 2008. |
When cirriform cloudiness is present, bright spots or so called
sun dogs (during the day) may appear little outside the small halo of
22°. They are usually seen when the sun is low, then they appear 22° to the
left or right at the same height of the sun. Each dog is red colored
towards the sun, sometimes green or blue beyond. Sometimes they are
blindingly bright, other times rather faint but more colorful. This picture was taken little less than an hour before the sunset. It shows a very bright sun dog on the right which lasted a couple of minutes before fainting. At the time of its most bright appearance a patch of Cirrus (or contrail) passed by in the right angle. |
