Brussels Airlines
officially joined
Star Alliance, a tight
cooperation between the member airlines. It was founded in 1997 by
Lufthansa, United, Air Canada, Thai and SAS and has since grown considerably
with by October 2010 28 members. It can be labeled as the world largest
alliance (followed by Oneworld and SkyTeam). The original five members of
Star Alliance are reflected in the airliners color scheme like the tail
motive and name. Each member has to paint at least one airliner (preferable
of each type in their fleet) in this identity. Such was also the case for
Brussels Airlines when a second hand A319 (originally delivered to Sabena)
joined the fleet in April 2010, currently the only type of four different
(A319, A330, B737, RJ85/RJ100) in their fleet to wear this livery.
