Base: Charleroi & Maastricht (The Netherlands)
IATA: *
ICAO: AWG
Fleet: 1x DC10
History: Aerowings was formed during 2001 by Henri Fabri (one of the founders of Skyjet & Skyjet Inc) to take over the activities of Skyjet Inc (Antigua). Reason for this was that during 2000 the Belgian CAA refused to prolong Skyjet Europe license to fly. Operations continued via a Greek license in the form of Electra Airlines with three ex Skyjet DC10s. Both Skyjet Inc and Skyjet Europe ceased operations on December 31 2001. Aerowings sole aircraft (ex Skyjet Inc V2-SKY), which had been stored for months at Brussels and Charleroi, arrived to their official operational base at Maastricht on November 2 2001 and remained stored for another five months. During the summer of 2002 it was wet leased to Air Gabon. Financial troubles led to the grounding of its sole aircraft at Maastricht on August 5 2002. On September 5 it was ferried to Charleroi and Aerowings ceased on September 15 2002. Operations continued under Swiss subsidiary Astra Airlines and the airframe was ferried to their base at Geneva on October 3. It was wet leased to Air Mali from December 12 2002 till February 9 2003 when returned to the lessor and ending the flying status of the company.
