Overhead Belgium there are on frequent basis strange shaped metal birds in the sky. The type, deviated from the commercial Airbus A300-600, is designated as Airbus A300-600ST of which ST stands for Super Transporter. It was nicknamed Beluga as it resembles to a white dolphin and this nick is currently adopted as official name. Airbus constructed 5 of them during 1995-2000, this to pick up large pieces of Airbus aircraft mainly between their factories in Hamburg and Toulouse. Usually when passing Belgium, it flies at around 10 km height, such as this shot taken with a telescope illustrates. More pictures via this link |
